Personal Experience Tops The Home Improvement Agenda With Innovative Energy And Space Savings New Products

(HIT) - What do you get when two reliable "workhorses" had their fill of retirement? Experience of course! Enough of those long-deserved walks on the beach, leisurely lunches, dinner with friends, and movies in the afternoon. In the case of the Segal’s, a Florida couple with a combined work history spanning close to 100 years, you get the start up of the Millennium International Development Corporation.

With unlimited innovative potential, this U.S. based company draws on imagination and unique work experiences of both Florence and Stan Segal, and specializes in products with practical home value and application.

After a single year of "retirement", they decided to do those things they had always wanted to do as they were now free of the constraints of previous fiduciary responsibilities:

  • Their expertise and innovation previously practiced in the construction industry led to the development of products that repair and enhance mirrors with damaged edges.
  • They developed and patented a system to prevent serious water damage and possible mold to homes, and particularly condominiums, from bursting hoses and ruptured pipes.
  • Developed an easy to use product for the control of sudden small fires—before they become large destructive ones.
  • Developed a product that utilizes an unused area in the bathroom to provide additional enclosed storage space to make the family bathroom more convenient, orderly and safer.

According to sales receipts from national home improvement stores the …build it and they will come, idiom works well.

As Millennium International looks ahead next Spring to their second decade, the Segal’s see success in the virtual, and economical nature of their products. More homeowners are looking for ways to "do it themselves," than ever before, and saving money is no longer an option. What then will come with the next round of innovation?

"It’s a pretty good bet that we’ll continue to stick with the basics," says Florence. "We love the response we get from people as we travel across the country to demonstrate our different products at home shows and conventions", we do have other product ideas in the pipeline.

"Saving money, time and energy are of paramount importance at this particular time. If you can keep a beautiful old mirror out of a landfill and enjoy it for years to come—then why don’t we?" She continues, referencing, MirrEdge™ (www.mirredge.com), the first of the Millennium patents. Since the original Clear Mirror Acrylic finish, Five additional finishes have been added to the product line and the most popular, Dove White.

Then, even as the long anticipated launch of FLO n STOP™, an easy to use Wireless Water Security System, was making the evening news at more than one national home products show, designer Stan Segal was at work on the wireless remote control components to sense the presence of water that will automatically shut off the main water supply to a dwelling. What makes the convenient shut-off system really effective is the "24/7 Water Sentinel" designed for use on the floor beneath each water fixture.

"It’s a simple and effective product that has the potential for enormous savings, in water conservation, restoration and cleanup costs, and personal grief," says Stan.

Sales of the new unit have grown steadily since its release in 2008. A wireless Transmitter at the entry door will signal the Transceiver switch which signals the Solenoid valve, and the water is turned off/on instantly at the main water line.

With the Sentinel in place, a homeowner can come and go without the need to "shut off" the water every time they leave the house. The dependable wireless sensor does the job day or night. (www.flo-n-stop.com).

Newest among the Segal’s inventive bathroom ideas is the sturdy PVC storage unit that resists water and hooks securely to the header of a standard 60" wide sliding shower door enclosure. The Shower Bridge™ is the most affordable way to add space and décor to the bathroom without remodeling.

The patented space-saver has two sliding doors on each side of the cabinet with access inside and outside the shower. (www.showerbridge.com).

Not the least of the new products at work in U.S. homes is a new combination chemical and water fire suppressant delivery system, FirstControl™, which was developed by Millennium to provide a first line of defense against kitchen, laundry or garage fires before they become emergencies.

The handy wall-mounted FirstControl™ unit connects to an existing water line and provides the ability to restrain fires up to 50 ft. away, with the water lasting long after chemical agents from fire extinguishers have been expelled.

Just when this energetic duo plans to retire is anyone’s guess.
