Interior Decorating Color Trends
(HIT) - Thinking about redecorating your homes interior? Wishing your homes interior had more personality or better captured a sense of serenity or optimism? Welcome to the intricate world of interior design and color selection.
Choosing the right colors and color combinations for interior decorating project can help capture a feeling or set a mood. In fact, the impact of color selection on your homes interior is so significant that many turn to a professional interior designer for help in getting it right. Yet, while expert advice is rarely a bad idea, color selection for your homes interior is largely a matter of personal taste and style, and a little information about how colors interact and what color trends are in vogue can help you choose a unique pallete for your home.
Lori Reagle, Art Director at Thibaut, says of the latest color trends: "Three colors are making a major statement. The first is blue. No matter what shade or tone, blue is big". In the companys latest wallpaper collection, "Repertoire," patterns like "Wolverhampton" feature collies and retrievers against a midnight blue ground. "Herald," a metallic fluer de lie pattern, features a slate blue ground. Darker hues like this create a sense of calm and comfort in larger, open rooms. On the other hand, the lighter blue tones found in the companys "Geraniums" design or the sea glass blue found in the "Jardinière" pattern create a sense of openness and serenity in smaller rooms.
According to Reagle, oranges and reds in spicy hues are also gaining popularity. The muted nutmeg tones in the companys "Fortress" design are also popular, and the hot paprika-colored "Indienne Paisley" design is showing up not only in home interiors but also on fashion runways around the world. These colors also complement the recent trend toward natural building materials like slate and stone.
Oranges and reds have always provided a sense of warmth, but Reagle sees current trends shifting toward the muted shades in this color range. Browns and brown/gold combinations also impart warmth, but can also add a touch of glamour and elegance to a room. A good rule of thumb is to look for colors that complement or enhance existing home furnishing. Play off the subtle hues and tones found in your favorite antiques or a treasured painting and youll likely be happy with the end result.
