Electric Utility Energy Assistance
(HIT) - The energy needed to power, light, heat, and cool houses grows larger each year. In fact, according to Edison Electric Institute, the typical house today uses about 20 percent more electricity than it did in 1978. With energy prices becoming more volatile, its important to make sure that you are getting the most use out of every dollar youre spending on energy. Using energy more efficiently helps to protect the environment as well.
Your electric utility has information on how you can take control over your homes energy bill. Electric utilities offer expert free advice, and many have special energy-saving programs or services.
Some examples of electric utility energy efficiency programs can include:
- Financial incentives on energy-efficient appliances and home weatherization materials (such as windows, doors, and insulation).
- Online home energy audits that you see where your home may be wasting energy.
- Programs that cycle air conditioners on-and-off for certain periods of time in exchange for a credit on your monthly bill.
Many electric utilities also have payment plans that enable you to balance out your energy costs over an entire year. Electric utilities also offer special assistance for families who need help in paying their bills.
