New CertainTeed® WideWrap™ Duct Wrap Decreases Jobsite Waste, Saves Labor

(HIT) - CertainTeed Corporation is making life easier for sheet metal contractors with WideWrap™, a new fiberglass duct wrap product with 5-foot width. For years, sheet metal contractors have been forced to fabricate an extra 1-foot-wide strip of duct wrap to complete the job when insulating the exterior of a 5-foot duct section, since the standard width of duct wrap rolls is 4 feet. Fabrications like this add extra time onto jobs and increase labor costs and jobsite waste.

WideWrap duct wrap, however, is designed to work perfectly with 5-foot duct sections, eliminating the need for additional fabrications. This saves time and labor costs for contractors, as it allows them to use less expensive in-shop labor to wrap ducts, and with a standard application of duct wrap, installations will have a cleaner look. In addition, the new product can decrease jobsite waste by up to 20 percent.

“Anything that saves time or money without sacrificing quality on a job is a big plus for contractors, and with WideWrap, they can now do both,” says Ken Forsythe, marketing product manager for CertainTeed’s Mechanical and Industrial Insulation Group. “At CertainTeed, we are always looking for ways to help our mechanical insulation customers do their jobs more efficiently and economically, and this new duct wrap production option is an excellent example.”

Like CertainTeed’s SoftTouch™ Duct Wrap, WideWrap is a foil scrim kraft (FSK)-faced flexible fiberglass blanket insulation used to insulate the exterior of rectangular and round heating, ventilating and air conditioning ductwork to provide enhanced thermal efficiency that reduces unwanted heat loss or gain. When properly installed in the correct thickness, WideWrap virtually eliminates ductwork condensation problems that can often lead to mold and microbial growth. In addition, WideWrap is GREENGUARD® Certified, making it an ideal product for green and LEED®-focused construction projects.
