CertainTeed Enters Cool Roof Market With Flintglas Energy Efficient Cap Sheet
(HIT) - CertainTeed Corporation is proud to unveil Flintglas® Mineral Surfaced Cap Sheet with CoolStar™ energy-saving reflectant surface. Developed out of growing interest, particularly in California, to reduce the amount of heat absorbed by roofing materials and help lower energy costs, Flintglas with CoolStar is rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC); is California Title 24, Part 6 compliant; and meets initial Energy Star® requirements as a cap sheet for use over inorganic and organic built-up roofing systems.
The brilliant white, acrylic-based CoolStar coating has an initial solar reflectance of 0.77 and a thermal emittance of 0.92. The durable, flexible reflectant coating is factory-applied to the Flintglas cap sheet, which features heavy, weathering-grade asphalt mixed with white ceramic granules.
John Donaldson, President of CertainTeed Roofing, explains that Flintglas with CoolStar excels in both performance and durability. "Not only does CoolStar have a higher reflectance and higher emittance than required by leading industry standards, but our engineers have also designed the coating to adapt to the natural movements of the roof."
Energy-saving CoolStar is factory-applied to the Flintglas cap sheet for a hassle-free, one-step field application. Once the roof system is capped and touched up, the job is complete. And, because there are no costly time delays for application of multiple coats, CoolStar helps reduce labor costs.
If system touch up is required, CertainTeed offers CoolStar Touch Up Coating. CoolStar Touch Up has been tested to perform with a single coat application. CoolStar contributes to a high-quality built-up roof with all the advantages of a redundant system, including UL Class A fire resistance.
