Ventilation … Insects … And New Design Aspects Of Residential Screens

Window And Patio Screens As A First Line Of Defense

(HIT) - Few home improvement products impact daily life around the world more than insect screens. Whether a simple cloth draped carefully outside over the entrance to living quarters—or the intricate bronze screen surrounding the fanciest rooftop garden—screens keep out insects of all sizes and shapes and help stop the spread of dangerous diseases from one part of the country to another.

New designs and innovation enable the screen industry to be more efficient, offering ever more affordable and available products. The Screen Manufacturers Association (SMA), organized more than 50 years ago, provides a watchdog operation that oversees various safety issues surrounding the manufacture and use of window screens. In addition to their decades long child safety labeling program: "Kids Can’t Fly," the Association embarked last year on a program to expand awareness of the health benefits of window screens.

A cooperative fifty-state effort worked with the help of the CDC Centers for Disease Control, to publicize and distribute the Screen Manufacturers Association’s new "For Health’s Sake" posters smainfo.org
