(HIT) - As a result of the new stimulus package, homeowners who make energy-efficient updates to their homes may be eligible for a tax credit up to $1,500. To receive the credit, homeowners must fill out IRS Form 5695 (Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit) when filing taxes for 2009 or 2010. Homeowners should obtain a copy of the qualifying product’s ENERGY STAR certification from the manufacturer, installer or retailer. Certifications do not have to be submitted to the IRS, but should be kept on file.
