Formaldehyde Free Insulation Products

(HIT) - Johns Manville, the only manufacturer of a full-line of formaldehyde-free fiber glass building insulation products, has launched a campaign to build awareness of the benefits of formaldehyde-free insulation with consumers, architects, builders and specifiers.

The campaign will build on print and broadcast ads that introduced Johns Manville Formaldehyde-free fiberglass insulation products to the world, and will consist of consumer and trade print advertising as well as sponsorships and television commercials. The new ads began appearing in January 2003 and feature an increased focus on sustainability.

“The same principles that prompted the switch to no formaldehyde insulation products are behind the decision to focus more on the environmental benefits of JM products in our advertising,” said Scott DeShetler, director of marketing for the Building Insulation Division at Johns Manville. “We are dedicated to promoting sustainable building and raising the bar for the construction industry.”

The new advertisements for Johns Manville Formaldehyde-free will feature taglines such as, “Good for the planet. Great for home sales,” that include research findings indicating a strong consumer preference for formaldehyde-free products.

In March 2002, Johns Manville became the first fiber glass insulation manufacturer to stop adding formaldehyde to building insulation as a binder and began using an acrylic binder that eliminates all binder-related emissions of formaldehyde during manufacturing. This means that the EPA regulation written to control the hazardous pollutants present in the manufacture of ordinary insulation formaldehyde, phenol, and methanol simply do not apply to the JM plants.

The acrylic binder used in Johns Manville Formaldehyde-free insulation reduces concerns about formaldehyde in the indoor environment once installed and utilizes a minimum 25 percent recycled content (North American average) while providing overall resource efficiency.
