NatureHills.com Introduces Miss Jilene® Hibiscus
Unique Variegated Foliage and Stunning Flowers Make New Hardy Hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) a Sought-After Showcase Plant
A new cold-hardy hibiscus called Miss Jilene® is sure to inspire a major case of garden envy this summer. New for national distribution in Spring 2011 is Miss Jilene® Hibiscus, a truly remarkable variety of one of the most treasured flowering shrubs in the world, Hibiscus syriacus—commonly known as Rose of Sharon or Althea.
Everyone loves hibiscus flowers, which cover the plant in the late summer. Miss Jilene® Hibiscus blooms are gorgeous—with delicate pink petals and a wine-colored center. The prolific blooms start in late summer and continue until the first frost of autumn.
But what makes Miss Jilene® Hibiscus truly extraordinary is its beautiful variegated foliage, which gives this Rose of Sharon plant a visual distinction even before the blooms come. This low-maintenance plant thrives in heat and full sun, but it will also flower in partial shade.
According to Jeff Dinslage of Nature Hills Nursery, Miss Jilene® Hibiscus should be fertilized monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer to promote optimum blooms. This new variety transplants well, and it will grow vigorously to a mature size of 8-12 feet tall. The 2-foot bareroot shrub or 4-foot-tall tree form that are now available are grown from sturdy nursery stock that will bloom during the first growing season. Perhaps best of all, Miss Jilene® is a tough, cold hardy plant that will thrive throughout USDA Zones 5-8.
Miss Jilene® Rose of Sharon is available exclusively from www.naturehills.com. A 2-foot bareroot shrub sells for $34.95, and a 4-foot-tall tree form (top graft) sells for $54.95.
